The reigning National League champion Arizona Diamondbacks have made a move to bolster their rotation just before MLB’s Opening Day.
“BREAKING: Left-handed starter Jordan Montgomery and the Arizona Diamondbacks are in agreement on a free agent deal, pending physical, a source tells ESPN.”
The deal is reportedly for one-year, $25 million.
Jordan Montgomery’s Texas Rangers defeated the Diamondbacks in the 2023 World Series in five games.

Following a terrific ALCS against the Houston Astros in which Montgomery won two of the four games for the Rangers and allowed only two earned runs over 14 innings, the 31-year-old left-hander made only one appearance in the World Series against the D’Backs allowing four earned runs over six innings and taking the loss in Game 2.
Montgomery makes for a nice addition to the Diamondbacks rotation joining ace Zac Gallen, Merrill Kelly, Brandon Pfaadt, and newcomer Eduardo Rodriguez, who started 26 games for the Detroit Tigers in 2023.
Montgomery begins the 2024 season with Arizona sporting a 38-34 record with a 3.68 ERA and recording 705 strikeouts in his seven-year career.
