Appalachian State’s football team experienced a tumultuous practice session recently, drawing comparisons to the infamous Myles Garrett incident in the NFL.
A leaked video captured the unsettling event. During an 11-on-11 drill, a defensive lineman wearing No. 12 collided with the quarterback, despite the QB donning a red no-contact jersey. This led to a scuffle with an offensive lineman wearing No. 73.
The altercation escalated when the defensive lineman forcibly removed No. 73’s helmet and struck him on the head with it, mirroring Garrett’s notorious 2019 assault on Mason Rudolph.

Details surrounding the incident remain scarce, but Appalachian State’s head coach, Shawn Clark, addressed the matter in a statement to TMZ Sports. “This behavior is completely unacceptable and will not be tolerated within the App State football program,” Clark asserted.
Shawn Clark, who has been at the helm of the Mountaineers since 2020, has led the team to a 35-18 record, including a 9-5 season last year. His response underscores the program’s commitment to maintaining a standard of conduct and discipline.
The practice altercation quickly evoked memories of the 2019 Steelers-Browns game when Cleveland’s Myles Garrett infamously ripped off Pittsburgh’s Mason Rudolph’s helmet and used it as a weapon.
The incident at Appalachian State serves as a stark reminder of the importance of sportsmanship and self-control in football.
