Antonio Brown is once again signaling his desire for an NFL comeback. Once regarded as one of the league’s top players, Brown hasn’t seen action since his departure from the Buccaneers in 2021.
Recently, he posted a photo of himself during his time with the Steelers on X, captioned “Hear me out…”. During his nine seasons with the Steelers, Brown amassed an impressive 11,207 receiving yards and 74 touchdowns.
He also earned four first-team All-Pro selections from 2014 to 2017. However, his tumultuous departure from the team led to the infamous 2019 Raiders saga.
Nonetheless, it’s improbable that the Steelers or any NFL team would be interested in Brown at this point. Despite his undeniable talent, he hasn’t played in two years and is widely regarded as a disruptive presence in the locker room. It’s challenging to rely on a player with a history of off-field issues.
Additionally, at 35 years old, Brown would likely demand a salary comparable to that of a much younger player, given his visibility and past achievements. Brown might find it more suitable to continue his activities such as partying with fraternities and promoting whatever “Catch the Energy” represents.
The Steelers had a disappointing start to the 2023 season with a 30-7 loss to the 49ers. Despite the low-scoring outcome, second-year QB Kenny Pickett managed to pass for 232 yards against one of the league’s top defenses.

These 232 yards were distributed among nine targets, with offseason addition Allen Robinson II leading with 64 yards. However, it’s important to note that this underwhelming performance came against a formidable opponent.
Although the Steelers may not have a stacked wide receiver corps, especially with Diontae Johnson expected to be sidelined for a few weeks, it’s unlikely that Brown would be a primary option due to his age and extended absence from the league.
With Johnson temporarily unavailable, the team is likely to turn to young talents like Calvin Austin and 2022 acquisition Miles Boykin to fill the void.
Furthermore, Brown left Pittsburgh on sour terms, and his reputation has only deteriorated since then. It’s safe to say he shouldn’t anticipate a call from Omar Khan anytime soon.
