Anthony Davis is getting ready for another season.
In simple terms, the success of the Los Angeles Lakers depends heavily on LeBron James and Anthony Davis.
This dynamic duo has experienced both great success and disappointing times due to inconsistent health.
At one point, rumors circulated about James growing frustrated with Davis and the possibility of the Lakers considering trading him.
However, they ultimately came together and led the team to an impressive run to the Western Conference Finals.
Any friction between LeBron and Davis seems to be a thing of the past. Now reports suggest James is thankful for Davis and was encouraged by his performance towards the end of last season and in the postseason.
Toward the end of the 2022-23 season, CBS Sports reported that James had soured on Davis for his play and his checkered injury history. A person familiar with James’ thinking, however, stressed that James only has felt upset with Davis’ various circumstances as opposed to him personally.
“LeBron is not frustrated with AD. LeBron is thankful for AD,” the person told Sportsnaut. “Does he wish that both could play and stay healthy the whole time? Of course. But it’s not like he wants a guy to go out there and get injured.”
The person added that LeBron James has felt increasingly encouraged with Davis for improving his play and durability as the Lakers advanced to the Western Conference Finals as a No. 7 seed. That gives James some relative hope that both he and Davis can stay consistent with their health and performances throughout the 2023-24 season.
Although there were reports that James was upset with Davis and his injury history, a source close to James clarified that he was upset with the circumstances surrounding Davis’s injuries, not with him personally. And that may explain why Anthony Davis is upping his training game this offseason. The Lakers star was spotted working out at the boxing gym.
LeBron James has been increasingly encouraged by Davis’s improvement and durability as they made it to the Western Conference Finals as a No. 7 seed. This gives James hope that both he and Davis can maintain their health and consistent performances in the 2023-24 season.
Despite frustrations caused by injuries derailing the team’s momentum, James and Davis have maintained a good relationship since joining forces on the Lakers, and they proved last year that they are still one of the top duos in the NBA.
The team’s front office will do everything possible to construct the right roster around James and Davis.
If they can stay healthy, the Lakers will once again be considered one of the favorites for the championship in 2024.
