Dallas Mavericks star guard Luka Doncic has wrapped up another standout regular season, leading the NBA with an impressive 33.9 points per game and contributing 9.2 rebounds and 9.8 assists. This performance helped his team secure 50 wins.
Since joining the NBA from Slovenia in 2018, Luka has consistently been in the conversation for MVP. However, his exceptional performance during the regular season has yet to translate into deep postseason success. The Mavericks have only advanced past the first round once during his tenure, which was during the 2021-22 season when they reached the Western Conference Finals only to fall to the Golden State Warriors.
Recently, some concerns have been raised about the team dynamics with Luka on the court. An anonymous veteran assistant coach mentioned a noticeable “sigh of relief” from Doncic’s teammates when he is substituted out of games, suggesting that they feel more involved in the gameplay without him. “It’s a sense of, ‘Hey, now we get to play.’ It’s difficult to have any rhythm if you’re not touching the ball,” the coach explained.

This season marked the first full regular season that Doncic played alongside Kyrie Irving as his main co-star, which coincided with the team’s best performance since their last Western Conference Finals appearance.
As the Mavericks face the playoffs, currently trailing 0-1 to the Oklahoma City Thunder, Doncic’s ability to lead his team to success in the postseason remains a crucial measure of his career achievements.
