LSU Women’s Basketball coach Kim Mulkey stands as one of the most triumphant figures in college basketball history, boasting an impressive record of four national titles spanning two renowned institutions, solidifying her legendary status.
However, Mulkey’s coaching style is often characterized as fiery and demanding, with frequent displays of sideline intensity and reports of confrontational interactions with players lingering for decades.
In a recent survey conducted by The Athletic among women’s college basketball players, Mulkey emerged as the coach players would least prefer to play for. Out of 95 respondents, a significant 32 players expressed this sentiment, surpassing other coaches by a considerable margin.

Despite the negative perception surrounding Mulkey, her track record speaks volumes. Throughout her illustrious 24-year coaching career, primarily spent at Baylor for 21 years before joining LSU, she has amassed an impressive tally of 723 wins and boasts a remarkable .860 winning percentage. Her accolades include five Final Four appearances, twenty-three regular-season and conference tournament titles, and four national championships (three with Baylor, one with LSU).
While Mulkey’s coaching style may draw criticism, her ability to deliver results cannot be overlooked. Despite a defeat in a highly anticipated rematch against Iowa in the Elite Eight, her LSU team continues to command attention, with record-breaking viewership for the game.
With Mulkey at the helm, LSU is poised for continued success in the upcoming seasons.
