At only 22, Nolan Schanuel experienced an injury severe enough to dismay anyone, regardless of age.
During the third inning of a game against the Boston Red Sox, Schanuel, the first baseman for the Los Angeles Angels, was struck by a ball he hit that bounced off his groin area. He exited the game due to the injury and was unable to return, as his team went on to a 7-2 defeat.
The impact of the foul ball proved particularly harsh. Post-game, Angels manager Ron Washington revealed that Schanuel sustained a testicular contusion. Consequently, he will miss the concluding game of the series against Boston, though he won’t be placed on the injured list, according to Jeff Fletcher from the OC Register.

Such injuries are profoundly unwelcome. Sadly, this is not the first instance of this type of injury in baseball.
Schanuel, who was only drafted by the Angels last year, had metaphorically taken a blow from Major League Baseball earlier this month. Now, he unfortunately suffered a physical one as well.
