The turmoil within the LSU women’s basketball team has extended to involve the parents, sparking online disputes.
The parents of Angel Reese and Flau’jae Johnson have engaged in a public exchange. One post directed at Reese referenced grammar errors and questioned knowledge about them when their daughter holds a GPA of 2.0 or lower. Graduated Tigers Alexis Morris and Jasmine Carson also chimed in on the unfolding drama. Morris expressed concern that the team might be “falling apart without her” after what she perceived as a change in attitude towards her. Meanwhile, Carson issued a warning, stating, “y’all better hope I don’t say nothing.”

During LSU’s road trip to Southeastern Louisiana, Angel Reese was conspicuously absent, and head coach Kim Mulkey declined to address her whereabouts. Despite this, the Tigers secured a 73-50 victory over Southeastern Louisiana, ranked #168 in the nation according to the latest NET rankings. Flau’jae Johnson, playing off the bench, delivered an impressive performance with a double-double and a game-high 17 points.
The defending national champions, LSU, seem to be grappling with the pressures of their title. They began the season with a loss to then #20 Colorado, one of the few challenging matchups in their non-conference schedule. Although they have rebounded to a 4-1 record with victories over Queens, Mississippi Valley State, Kent State, and Southeastern Louisiana, internal issues persist.
Coach Kim Mulkey made headlines by benching Angel Reese for the entire second half against Kent State, citing it as a “coach’s decision.” Shortly thereafter, Reese was absent from the team entirely, with Mulkey offering limited insight into the situation. While Mulkey acknowledged Reese’s status as part of the team, she remained tight-lipped about the specifics, stating, “Angel was not in uniform. Angel is a part of this basketball team, and we hope to see her sooner than later.” However, it became apparent that Reese had not made the journey to Hammond for the game.
As the Tigers return home for a six-game homestand, including a matchup against #9 Virginia Tech, the uncertainty surrounding Angel Reese’s return to the lineup remains unresolved.
