The Met Gala, Vogue’s iconic celebration of cutting-edge fashion, took place at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York this past Monday.
This star-studded event, renowned for its exclusive guest list, often features prominent athletes alongside the biggest names in entertainment. In the past, sports luminaries such as Tom Brady, Steph Curry, Russell Westbrook, Simone Biles, and Carmelo Anthony have graced the gala.
The 2024 theme, “Garden of Time,” coincided with the opening of the “Sleeping Beauties: Reawakening Fashion” exhibit at the Met, providing a lush backdrop for attendees to showcase their interpretations of the motif.
A standout among the athletes was Angel Reese, the college basketball sensation who recently joined the Chicago Sky. Celebrating her 22nd birthday, Reese made her first appearance at the Met Gala in a breathtaking seafoam green gown featuring a low-cut design, ostrich feather tutu, and embroidered tulle.
Despite some criticism suggesting she should prioritize her basketball career over attending high-profile social events, Reese responded confidently on social media. “So now y’all can delete them drafts & tweets saying I shouldn’t have gone to the Met Gala & I can’t do both. I CAN DO ALL THINGS THROUGH CHRIST WHO STRENGTHENS ME?,” Reese stated.

Demonstrating her ability to excel both on and off the court, Reese traveled via private jet to New York for the gala, then returned to score 13 points on 6-for-10 shooting with five rebounds in a dominant 101-53 preseason victory over the Liberty the following night.
Reese highlighted her effective use of the 24 hours encompassing her birthday and the gala, praising her Chicago Sky coaches for their flexibility in allowing her to fulfill her dream of participating in one of fashion’s grandest evenings.
“Today was a success,” Reese shared in a TikTok video post-gala, where she also mentioned spending time with rapper Cardi B. “I was able to play the game I love, but also live in the fashion world and do everything I’ve always dreamed about.”
