Former LSU standout and current WNBA rookie Angel Reese has never shied away from blazing her own trail.
Her recent decision to sign an endorsement deal with Reebok, while turning down Nike in the process, further exemplifies her independent spirit.
Despite facing criticism for her choice, Reese has articulated her rationale, which holds considerable merit.
“Many shoe companies sought to collaborate with me, but I chose Reebok,” Reese explained on social media. “Why Reebok? Firstly, they lacked a female basketball player as their face. I aimed to fill that void. Secondly, Shaq. My relationship with him is significant. And thirdly, I appreciate their rebranding efforts, allowing me creative control over my endeavors. Consequently, I’m launching my own shoe line and merchandise bearing my name.”

Reese intends to infuse her distinctive style into the merchandise, emphasizing authenticity and personal expression.
Similar to her friend and competitor Caitlin Clark, Reese faced criticism for opting out of another year of college eligibility. However, she staunchly defended her decision during the women’s NCAA Tournament.
“For me, it’s about realizing that whether I stay or leave, I have the potential to earn,” Reese asserted. “I’ve cultivated my brand beyond the collegiate sphere, fostering enduring relationships with various brands. These partnerships extend beyond my college years.”
Declining an opportunity with a behemoth like Nike surely wasn’t simple. Nevertheless, Reese’s unwavering vision for her brand underscores her confidence and determination.
