Britt Reid, the second son of Kansas City Chiefs head coach Andy Reid, received a significant reduction in his prison sentence on Friday.
Missouri governor Mike Parson commuted Britt Reid’s original 3-year prison term, allowing him to complete the remainder of his sentence under house arrest.
In February 2021, the 38-year-old Reid caused a collision involving two parked cars, just ahead of the Super Bowl that season. He was found to be driving under the influence of alcohol and prescription medication, Adderall. The crash resulted in severe injuries to 5-year-old Ariel Young, who remained in a coma for 10 days and faced challenges in walking and speaking for weeks thereafter.
In September 2022, Reid pleaded guilty to driving while intoxicated and was sentenced to three years in prison on November 1, 2022. Following almost half of his sentence served in prison, Reid will now complete the remainder of his term under house arrest.
Under the terms of his house arrest, which lasts until October 31, 2025, Reid will be subject to strict probation conditions. These include weekly meetings with a parole officer, attendance at behavioral counseling sessions, regular meetings with a peer support sponsor, as well as fulfilling stringent community service and employment obligations, as outlined by the governor’s office.
Prior to the crash, Reid had been employed as a linebackers coach for the Chiefs, but he lost his position with the team following the incident. The Chiefs have assumed responsibility for covering all of Ariel Young’s medical expenses.
