It’s only fitting that Andy Reid is receiving a salary increase.
Negotiations are on the horizon for the Kansas City Chiefs and Andy Reid, aiming to secure a deal that would elevate him to the NFL’s top-paid coach, as sources informed Tom Pelissero of NFL Network.
Following the Chiefs’ consecutive Super Bowl victories against the San Francisco 49ers, General Manager Brett Veach is also poised for a new contract. According to Pelissero, both agreements could be finalized ahead of the Annual League Meeting scheduled from March 24 to 27.
Previous reports indicated Reid’s likelihood of securing an extension, irrespective of the outcome against San Francisco, given his remarkable leadership, which has led Kansas City to three Super Bowl triumphs in the past five years.
Though coach contracts often receive less public attention than player deals, approximately six coaches are believed to earn upwards of $15 million annually, notes Pelissero.
Despite his accomplishments, the 65-year-old Reid reportedly ranks eighth among NFL coaches in average salary, placing third within the AFC West, trailing Sean Payton and Jim Harbaugh.
Following departures from Bill Belichick and Pete Carroll, Reid currently holds the distinction of being the NFL’s oldest active coach.
Both Reid and Veach secured new contracts subsequent to the Chiefs’ Super Bowl victory in the 2019 season.
