Another tragedy unfolded on what should have been a celebratory day.
Today was meant to be a day of love and celebration in Kansas City, Missouri. However, it quickly turned into a scene of horror as multiple people were struck by gunfire during the Super Bowl victory parade for the Kansas City Chiefs.
The Kansas City Fire Department confirmed the shooting near Union Station and described the situation as “fluid.”
Amid the chaos, Gabe Wallace, a sophomore at Shawnee Mission East, recounted hearing the gunshots and receiving instructions from police on where to seek safety. In the midst of the confusion, Chiefs head coach Andy Reid reportedly stepped in to offer comfort to Wallace and others affected by the incident.
He lost track of his friends. On what he was thinking? “My friends are dead.” said the highschool student.
He then said Andy Reid hugged him. “He trying to comfort me.”
