Rookie wide receiver Rashee Rice quickly established himself during his first NFL season with the Kansas City Chiefs.
However, an offseason hit-and-run car crash has cast uncertainty over his future with the team and in the league.
Chiefs head coach Andy Reid addressed the media on Monday regarding how the organization is handling Rice’s situation. “I’m leaving that like we’ve done most of these for the law enforcement part to take place and then we will go from there with that,” Reid stated, according to PJ Green of Fox 4 in Kansas City.

As a result of the incident, Rice will not be joining the team for voluntary offseason workouts or team meetings for the foreseeable future. Instead, he will participate in meetings virtually and will conduct his offseason training individually.
Earlier in the month, Rice released a statement on Instagram concerning the incident. “Today I met with Dallas PD investigators regarding Saturday’s accident,” he wrote. “I take full responsibility for my part in this matter and will continue to cooperate with the necessary authorities. I sincerely apologize to everyone impacted in Saturday’s incident.” This statement, however, has since been deleted.
The Chiefs had high expectations for Rice to take on a more significant role in their offense in his second year. During his rookie season, Rice ranked second on the team in both receptions and receiving yards, trailing only the renowned tight end Travis Kelce, and led all receivers in touchdown catches.
Losing Rice for any substantial period in 2024 would undoubtedly be a significant setback for the Chiefs’ offense.
