Alex Rodriguez has stirred speculation with a cryptic Instagram post following news of his ex-fiancée Jennifer Lopez’s divorce filing from Ben Affleck.
The former MLB star, now 49, shared a reflective quote on his Instagram Stories on Tuesday, shortly after reports emerged that Lopez had officially filed for divorce from Affleck. The quote, which Rodriguez had previously posted, read, “You either go one way or the other, you might as well be the one deciding the direction.”
Rodriguez and Lopez’s romance began in 2017, and the couple seemed destined for a happily ever after when Rodriguez proposed in 2019. However, their engagement came to an unexpected end in April 2021. At the time, the pair released a joint statement, saying, “We have realized we are better as friends and look forward to remaining so. We wish the best for each other and one another’s children.” Despite the breakup, Rodriguez has often spoken fondly of Lopez and her family.
Not long after ending her relationship with Rodriguez, Lopez rekindled her romance with Ben Affleck, whom she had originally been engaged to from 2002 to 2004. Their love story quickly reignited, leading Affleck to propose in April 2022. The split between Lopez and Affleck has been marked by reports of tension and distance. Even before the official end of Lopez and Affleck’s marriage, Rodriguez had taken the high road, expressing nothing but good wishes for his ex-fiancée. In an October 2022 interview with CNN, Rodriguez warmly praised Lopez, calling her children, 16-year-old twins Emme and Max, “smart and beautiful and wonderful.” He also wished Lopez “the very best” as she navigated her new chapter with Affleck.
