Adele has finally shed light on the circumstances surrounding her now-infamous moment at a past NBA All-Star Game, where she became a viral meme.
During a recent concert in Las Vegas, the singer revealed that she attended the game with her boyfriend, Rich Paul, the founder of Klutch Sports. Despite her discomfort with fame, she found herself courtside, where Paul was working the room while she was left to her own devices.
“I know it sounds crazy, but I really don’t like being famous,” Adele confessed. “So obviously I know sitting courtside at a basketball game you’re asking for it, whatever, but Rich was like working the room and you know he was like talking to players and talking to people, and I was fine.”

However, her tranquility was disrupted when camera operators approached her not once, but twice, asking for permission to film her for the screen.
“But, the people with the camera came and asked me twice: They were like, ‘Do you mind if we film you, can we put you on the screen?'” Adele recounted. Despite her initial reluctance, the crew went ahead and filmed her against her wishes.
“So the reason my lips look like I had filler — because I’ve got actually-big lips, I don’t need filler — the reason I looked like a different person was because I was sulking,” Adele explained. “I was like, ‘These motherf–kers have come back and are filming me against my will’ so I [made a face]. I didn’t realize they were airing it on TV. I thought it was just in the room.” via NY Post.
Ultimately, Adele concluded that her face is simply “very meme-able,” resigning herself to the reality of her unintentional internet fame.
