After a remarkable 10-season journey, Aaron Donald’s illustrious NFL career has reached its conclusion. As fans reflect on his legacy, an old tweet from Adam Schefter has resurfaced, offering a glimpse into the early signs of Donald’s greatness with the Rams.
In 2014, Donald was selected as the No. 13 overall pick in the NFL Draft. However, even before stepping onto the field, Rams coaches were already marveling at his talents during practice, as Schefter revealed in a tweet from July 26, 2014.
“Just got this text from Rams’ practice: ‘Aaron Donald is unreal,'” Schefter wrote.
Their assessment turned out to be prophetic, if not understated. Donald went on to achieve Pro Bowl status in every season, earned eight First-Team All-Pro selections, and secured three NFL Defensive Player of the Year awards. His crowning achievement came with a Super Bowl LVI victory, solidifying his status as one of the game’s all-time greats.
“The one training camp take that didn’t oversell,” remarked one user.
“This was in rookie training camps. And then 10 years later he’s a first-ballot HOF,” noted another.
“Tweet made before his rookie season… we all knew he was special from the very first snap in St. Louis. Rams fans nearly started a riot when Jeff Fisher wasn’t starting him his first few games,” added a third.
Of course some had fun with the tweet:
