Looks like all the anticipation surrounding Aaron Rodgers’ comeback might be in vain.
Sources have informed NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport that New York Jets quarterback Aaron Rodgers is unlikely to make a return from his Achilles injury for the remainder of the season. Unless the 4-7 Jets find themselves in contention for a playoff spot later this month, Rodgers is expected to remain sidelined for the entire 2023 campaign.

While the Jets have initiated Rodgers’ 21-day practice window this week, there’s a possibility of activating him to the 53-man roster before December 20 to serve as an emergency quarterback on game day.
Rodgers, who tore his Achilles in Week 1 against the Buffalo Bills just 77 days ago, is using his participation in practice primarily as a continuation of his on-field rehabilitation, allowing him to throw to wide receivers rather than trainers. Although the four-time MVP has mentioned the idea of a comeback on December 24 against the Washington Commanders, it’s anticipated that the Jets will be out of playoff contention by then.
Rodgers expressed to reporters this week, “If we are out of it, I would be surprised if they OK’d that to come back.”
The Jets have struggled offensively in Rodgers’ absence, ranking 31st in yards per contest and 30th in points per game this season. They are set to face the Atlanta Falcons in Week 13.
