Aaron Rodgers is setting the record straight about his ex-girlfriend Olivia Munn, finally addressing long-standing rumors that she played a role in the rift between him and his family.
In a new book titled Out of the Darkness: The Mystery of Aaron Rodgers by writer Ian O’Connor, the Jets quarterback made it clear that Munn had “nothing to do with” the “deep-rooted” issues that have strained his relationship with his relatives, according to a report by People on Friday.
The Rodgers family feud became public knowledge when Aaron’s father, Ed Rodgers, revealed in a 2017 interview with The New York Times that his son had been estranged from the family since 2014.
At that time, Aaron had ceased communication with his parents, Ed and Darla Rodgers, as well as his siblings, Luke and Jordan Rodgers.
“Aaron has never wanted to air this out in a public forum. He’s taken great precautions not to make this worse,” a source close to the NFL star told People three years after the rift became public. The source emphasized that Aaron had no intention of discussing the matter publicly, stating, “You’re not going to see him on Oprah crying about all of this. He will deal with his family issues privately.”
Rodgers began dating Olivia Munn, an actress known for her role in The Newsroom, in May 2014, just as the family feud was becoming more apparent.
By 2016, two years into their relationship, Munn was often blamed for the growing estrangement between Aaron and his family. A source told Us Weekly at the time that the Rodgers family believed Aaron had distanced himself from them because of their disapproval of Munn. In contrast, Aaron reportedly felt that his family’s attitude toward Munn was the cause of their communication breakdown.
Despite the speculation, Aaron and Munn ended their relationship in 2017. A year later, Munn publicly commented on the situation during an interview with Andy Cohen on his SiriusXM show, where she suggested that “fame and success” had complicated the dynamics within the Rodgers family.
She noted that the family’s deep involvement in sports and Aaron’s status as one of the best quarterbacks in the NFL likely added pressure to their relationships. “There’s a lot of complications,” Munn
