Aaron Rodgers appears unfazed by the NFL’s anti-tampering policy, as he was caught on camera expressing his eagerness to reunite with Davante Adams at a golf course in Lake Tahoe. The Jets quarterback hinted at the possibility of playing with the Raiders wideout, with whom he spent six seasons on the Packers, while casually answering questions during the American Century Championship on Thursday.
Initially engrossed in his phone, Rodgers greeted the reporter with a casual “What’s up?” The reporter then asked, “Do you think Luke Getsy is going to utilize Davante Adams well in the new Raiders offense?”
Rodgers responded enthusiastically, “I love Luke Getsy, he’s a fantastic coach. I love Davante. I can’t wait to play with him… again.”

This candid remark sparked outrage among NFL fans on social media, with one of the most liked comments on X (formerly known as Twitter) reading, “This is tampering.” Another user wrote, “Rodgers trying to cost the Jets a draft pick for tampering.” While some fans speculated that Rodgers was merely stirring the pot, others suggested he might have been referring to playing a round of golf with Adams.
Adding to the speculation, Adams mentioned a day earlier that he and Rodgers were in touch and discussing plans for the 2024-25 NFL season. “He’s in that ear, that’s for sure,” Adams said, referring to Rodgers. “Obviously, we can get together and talk about the old times and the potential of doing this or that. But, like I said, I’m a Raider so… he knows that so… maybe the next [year].”
Adams, currently in the third season of a five-year, $140 million contract with the Raiders, won’t become a free agent until the 2027 NFL season, when Rodgers will be 42. It remains uncertain whether the veteran quarterback will continue playing that long.
The NFL’s anti-tampering policy strictly prohibits teams from approaching players under contract with another team without first engaging with that team. Therefore, any potential trade for Adams would require formal discussions with the Raiders, including from Rodgers’ Jets.
Rodgers’ offhand comments have undoubtedly stirred the pot, igniting a fresh wave of speculation about future team dynamics and the ever-intriguing prospect of a reunion with Adams. Whether this playful banter will have any real impact remains to be seen, but it has certainly captured the attention of fans and analysts alike.
