Aaron Rodgers’ father, Ed Rodgers, has accused his son’s ex-girlfriend, Olivia Munn, of spreading falsehoods about their family to protect her own reputation during their relationship.
In a candid excerpt from Ian O’Connor’s new book, Out of Darkness: The Mystery of Aaron Rodgers, which was exclusively obtained by The Post, Ed and Darla Rodgers spoke out against Munn’s portrayal of their family dynamics.
According to Ed, Munn fabricated stories about the Rodgers family being dysfunctional before she entered Aaron’s life. “She just made stuff up to make herself look good,” Ed claimed, adding, “She said the family was dysfunctional before she met Aaron, which is bull.” Ed insisted that before the “Magic Mike” actress became involved with Aaron, he and his wife were deeply connected to their son, regularly attending his games and even staying at his home.
“We had a great relationship. Nothing bad was going on,” Ed emphasized, contradicting Munn’s 2018 interview with Andy Cohen on his SiriusXM radio show, where she claimed that Aaron had already distanced himself from his parents eight months before she came into the picture. Ed dismissed this as “a lie.”

Darla Rodgers also refuted Munn’s insinuations that she and Ed exploited Aaron’s football career to boost their own business ventures. Munn had suggested in her interview with Cohen that Ed, a sports chiropractor, and Aaron’s brother Luke, who sells merchandise featuring images of Aaron, were using the quarterback’s success for personal gain. Darla strongly denied these claims, stating, “I can think about showbiz families that, like the Kardashians, climb all over each other for fame and stuff like that. But that’s not our family. Nobody did that.”
Munn had implied that the family’s ambitions were tied to Aaron’s success, saying, “I do believe that family and fame and success can be really complicated if their dreams are connected to your success.” She added, “At the end of the day, there’s a lot of complications. I don’t think either side of the road is clean, but I do think it’s not OK when you try to stand on someone’s shoulders and then throw dirt in their face, which is what I think they did with him.”
However, Aaron Rodgers has consistently defended Munn, stating that she was not the cause of the rift with his family. In his conversation with O’Connor, Aaron explained that their family issues were “deep-rooted” and predated Munn’s involvement. He avoided going into detail but made it clear that the problems were not related to his relationship with Munn.
Sources close to the family suggest that Ed and Darla, who are devout Christians, were upset by some of Munn’s actions and public statements during her relationship with Aaron. This included her candid discussions about their sex life, which reportedly angered Darla. The family was also said to disapprove of Aaron living with Munn before marriage. “She was saying all that and it pissed Darla off, really pissed her off,” a family insider told O’Connor.
The relationship between Aaron and his parents reportedly fell apart in the winter of 2014 while Munn was living with him in Green Bay.
Despite their breakup in April 2017 after three years together, the wounds within the Rodgers family have yet to fully heal.
Aaron’s parents expressed their desire to reconcile with their son, emphasizing that they are ready to forgive and move forward whenever Aaron is willing. “Yes, we’re all about forgiving and forgetting,” Darla told O’Connor. “We would be so happy to move on. … The new relationship needs to start, and it just feels weird that we can’t communicate even big-life things with him.” Ed echoed these sentiments, adding, “And we have unconditional love for him. No matter what happened, we would just like the relationship.”
Aaron has also indicated that reconciliation with his family is “definitely possible,” suggesting that there may still be hope for mending their fractured bond.
Meanwhile, Olivia Munn has moved on from her relationship with Aaron Rodgers. She secretly married comedian John Mulaney in July, and the couple shares a 2-year-old son named Malcolm, who was born in November 2021.
Out of Darkness: The Mystery of Aaron Rodgers is set to be released on August 20, promising to shed more light on the complex relationships and personal struggles of the NFL star.
