A columnist, Gregg Doyel of IndyStar, has expressed skepticism about the truthfulness of New York Jets quarterback Aaron Rodgers regarding his Achilles injury. Doyel suggests that Rodgers’ procedure is being treated as a secret rather than celebrated as a breakthrough, and he goes as far as calling Rodgers a “liar.”
“I don’t believe for a second he suffered a torn Achilles, at least not as we know what a torn Achilles is,” Doyel said. “Whatever Kevin Durant, Kobe and Brandon Graham suffered, he did not. Because this procedure would be trumpeted as a breakthrough, not treated as a secret. Plus he’s a liar.”
In response to doubters, Rodgers had a message for those questioning the nature of his Achilles injury. He emphasized the uniqueness of his situation, having been injured in the first drive of the season, expressing his desire to come back and attempt something unprecedented.

“All those big brains out there, let me just shoot you straight. There’s not a lot of people that have the unique situation I was in,” Rodgers said. “I got hurt the first drive of the season, I don’t want to retire, I want to come back … My mindset from the morning after the injury was I’m going to try and do something nobody has done before.”
Rodgers’ relationship with the media is perceived as unconventional, with a tendency to selectively reveal or withhold information based on his advantage.
