Aaron Rodgers has finally opened up about his “beautiful” trip to Egypt, which he took last month, resulting in his absence from the New York Jets’ mandatory minicamp.
Speaking at the American Century Championship golf tournament near Lake Tahoe, Nevada, Rodgers confirmed that he was in Egypt in June, having chosen to miss the minicamp after participating in the team’s voluntary OTAs.
The Jets deemed Rodgers’ absence as “unexcused,” leading to over $100,000 in fines for the decorated quarterback. Rodgers, who missed almost the entire 2023 season due to a ruptured Achilles tendon, is expected to attend training camp starting July 22 in Florham Park, New Jersey.
“I felt good all spring,” Rodgers shared with NBC Sports during the celebrity golf event. “Had a nice OTAs. Had a beautiful trip to Egypt. And this [tournament] is like the last marker – summer is over on Sunday. Walking up (hole) 18 is super bittersweet, but it’s fun to be out here.”

Rodgers also highlighted his improved golf game during the offseason. The former Super Bowl champion recounted a significant achievement on the greens.
“My first round out, I was fortunate or lucky enough to make an ace at 17 at Shadow Creek,” Rodgers said. “That’s been the highlight of my golf offseason.”
While Rodgers remains the primary quarterback for the Jets, the team has experienced considerable changes in its quarterback lineup. Backup Zach Wilson was traded to Denver, and the Jets brought in veteran Tyrod Taylor and drafted Jordan Travis from Florida State.
Travis, like Rodgers, is recovering from a significant injury. He suffered a season-ending ankle injury in 2023, fracturing and dislocating the joint during a game with the Seminoles.
As Rodgers gears up for the upcoming season, the Jets are preparing to integrate their new quarterbacks into the team. Rodgers’ leadership and experience will be crucial as the team aims to build a cohesive unit. His return to training camp is highly anticipated, as fans and teammates alike look forward to seeing him back in action after his brief but memorable offseason adventures.
