Aaron Rodgers and the New York Jets certainly haven’t had the 2024 season they envisioned. Injuries, inconsistent play, and a series of tough losses have led to a disappointing 3-7 record, far from the playoff aspirations the team had when they brought Rodgers on board. Despite the underwhelming results, the veteran quarterback’s outlook on his future remains unchanged.
Speaking to reporters on Wednesday, Rodgers made it clear that he intends to play in the 2025 season, even though he’ll be turning 41 in December.
He emphasized that the team’s struggles this year have not discouraged him from wanting to return.
When asked directly if the Jets’ poor performance had altered his plans, Rodgers responded without hesitation: “Not really. Not for the negative, no.” It’s apparent that, at least from his perspective, there’s still unfinished business in New York.
This isn’t the first time Rodgers has been vocal about his desire to continue playing for several more years. Known for his competitiveness, he’s expressed confidence in his physical health, which is crucial at this stage of his career. Unlike previous seasons marred by injury, Rodgers has stayed healthy throughout 2024 and has even looked more mobile in recent weeks.

Though his numbers aren’t quite at the level they were during his MVP years, he’s still managed to throw for 2,258 yards with 15 touchdowns and seven interceptions—not bad for a player whose career has spanned nearly two decades.
However, the bigger question might be whether the Jets want Rodgers back. With a dismal record and an offense that has struggled to find its rhythm, the Jets’ investment in Rodgers hasn’t exactly paid off.
Before the season, there were reports that suggested if things went south, the Jets might have to reconsider their commitment to the veteran QB.
The financial situation only complicates matters—moving on from Rodgers would leave the team with a massive $49 million dead cap hit next season. While that’s a daunting figure, it’s possible the organization may feel the need to hit the reset button and start fresh, even if it means making a costly decision.
For Rodgers, the uncertainty isn’t just about his own desire to keep playing; it’s about whether New York still sees him as part of their future.
If the Jets decide to go in a different direction, Rodgers might find himself searching for yet another team willing to bet on his talent and experience. For now, though, he’s keeping his focus on finishing the current season strong and proving he’s still got plenty left in the tank.
