Aaron Hernandez became an unexpected focal point during Tom Brady’s roast, drawing criticism from his ex-fiancée Shayanna Jenkins.
Jenkins, who shares a child with the late Patriots star, expressed disappointment over the insensitive jokes made at Hernandez’s expense, particularly in light of his tragic story.
“It’s sad that I’m trying to raise my children in such a cruel world,” Jenkins told TMZ, expressing her frustration with the mockery of Hernandez’s life and death.
Jenkins emphasized that while Hernandez is no longer here, their 11-year-old daughter remains a constant presence in her life. She expressed concern about her daughter encountering the jokes about her father, whom she once admired as a hero.

Jenkins firmly believes that Hernandez should have been off-limits for jokes, but unfortunately, he became a recurring topic throughout the roast. Notably, jokes about Hernandez’s life and death were made both directly and indirectly by various participants, including Tom Brady, Nikki Glaser, and Julian Edelman.
The uncomfortable moments drew mixed reactions from the audience, with some reacting with shock while others found humor in the dark humor. However, the jokes struck a nerve with Hernandez’s loved ones, highlighting the lasting pain caused by his tragic demise.
Despite the backlash, it appears unlikely that apologies will be forthcoming, as the roast participants seemed unapologetic about their controversial material. Tom Brady, for instance, identified his children as a sensitive topic that was off-limits for jokes during the event.
