Is Bill Belichick on the hot seat in New England?
To most NFL fans, the notion that Bill Belichick could be on the hot seat may seem absurd, but it appears that it could be a reality in New England.
Reports from The Boston Globe suggest that Patriots owner Robert Kraft has high expectations for the team this season, expecting them to not only make the playoffs but also win a postseason game, something they haven’t accomplished since 2018.
Sources close to Belichick have expressed concerns about his future with the Patriots, suggesting that he may be coaching for his job this fall.
“Robert Kraft already made it clear in March that he wants the Patriots to make the postseason and win a playoff game for the first time in five years,” Volin wrote. “He also paid Jerod Mayo handsomely to keep him off the coaching market and likely views him as the team’s coach-in-waiting. And Belichick’s friends have privately said they are worried that he is on the hot seat in 2023.”
New: Mac Jones is already getting the invite to the Hamptons from the Krafts? Wow.
Belichick better tread carefully with his young QB, who evidently is a lot tighter with the Patriots’ owners than we realizedhttps://t.co/IVcB0Jim21

In March, Kraft made it clear that he wants to see the team succeed in the playoffs and even paid Jerod Mayo handsomely to keep him from pursuing other coaching opportunities, potentially viewing him as Belichick’s successor.
This has raised concerns among Belichick’s friends, who privately worry that he is on the hot seat in the coming year.
Considering that Belichick has been coaching the Patriots since 2000, the idea of someone else taking the reins of this franchise seems peculiar.
However, it is important to note that Belichick’s past accomplishments cannot solely sustain him in a league where success is measured by recent achievements.
In the NFL, the saying “what have you done for me lately” carries significant weight. But Belichick has earned the right to not win games.
At least for a little while longer.
