Kyren Lacy, a former LSU wide receiver and 2025 NFL Draft prospect, is facing serious legal trouble after being linked to a tragic car accident that resulted in the death of a 78-year-old retired Marine. Louisiana State Police issued a warrant for Lacy, 24, in connection with a Dec. 17 crash in Thibodaux, Louisiana, that killed Herman Hall.
Allegations and Charges
Authorities allege that Lacy was driving a 2023 Dodge Charger recklessly on Louisiana Highway 20 around 10 a.m. on Dec. 17. According to the police report, Lacy was “recklessly passing multiple vehicles at a high rate of speed by crossing the centerline in a designated no-passing zone.” This dangerous maneuver forced other vehicles to swerve to avoid a collision.
The chain of events began when a northbound pickup truck braked and swerved to the right to avoid Lacy’s Charger. A 2017 Kia Cadenza traveling behind the truck also swerved but crossed into the southbound lane, where it collided head-on with a 2017 Kia Sorento.
Herman Hall, a passenger in the Kia Sorento, sustained fatal injuries and later died. Hall, a beloved former Marine, was remembered by his community for his service and dedication.
After the crash, Lacy allegedly fled the scene without rendering aid or contacting emergency services. Louisiana State Police have charged him with negligent homicide, felony hit-and-run, and reckless operation of a vehicle.
Police Investigation
In a statement, Louisiana State Police detailed the severity of the incident and their ongoing efforts to bring Lacy into custody.
“Troopers are in communication with Lacy and his legal representation to arrange for him to turn himself in,” the statement read.
Law enforcement emphasized that fleeing the scene not only compounded the tragedy but also added to the charges Lacy now faces.
NFL Aspirations in Jeopardy
Just two days after the fatal crash, Lacy declared for the 2025 NFL Draft. In a heartfelt social media post, the wide receiver expressed gratitude for his time at LSU, describing the past three years as transformative both on and off the field.
“Not too many people get to fulfill a dream like this. I am forever grateful for it,” Lacy wrote. He also thanked LSU coaches and staff for shaping him as a player and person, promising to carry those lessons into the next chapter of his life.
Lacy had a standout college career, recording 58 receptions for 866 yards and nine touchdowns during the 2024 season. After spending two seasons at Louisiana, he transferred to LSU in 2022, where he became a key contributor to the Tigers’ offense.

Community Reaction
The tragic loss of Herman Hall has left the Thibodaux community in mourning. Hall’s family and friends remember him as a devoted Marine and family man whose life was tragically cut short.
Meanwhile, LSU fans and the football community expressed shock and disappointment over Lacy’s alleged actions. Many have called for justice, urging him to take responsibility for his role in the incident.
Next Steps
As of now, Lacy remains at large, but authorities are working with his legal team to facilitate his surrender. Louisiana has until Jan. 23 to extradite him for a court appearance in California if he does not turn himself in voluntarily.
This incident casts a shadow over what was once a promising NFL career. For now, Lacy’s focus will shift from the football field to facing the legal repercussions of the tragic events that unfolded on Dec. 17.
