Colorado head coach Deion Sanders has repeatedly dismissed rumors linking him to NFL coaching jobs, but he recently shed light on the one scenario that might make him reconsider his position in Boulder.
In an interview that aired Wednesday on Good Morning America, Sanders shared that his only temptation to jump to the NFL would come if he had the chance to coach both of his sons, quarterback Shedeur Sanders and safety Shilo Sanders, on the same team.
“The only way I would consider it is to coach my sons. Not son. Sons,” Sanders clarified. “I love Colorado. I love my Buffaloes. I love everything we’re building and everything we’re doing, and I love Boulder, Colorado. I do. Immensely.”
A Narrow Path to the NFL
Sanders’ statement offers a very specific and unlikely set of circumstances for a potential leap to professional coaching. Shedeur Sanders is projected to be one of the top quarterbacks selected in the 2025 NFL Draft, with his strong arm and poise under pressure catching the attention of scouts. However, concerns about his performance against high-level defenses have left some questioning his draft stock.
Shilo Sanders’ NFL future is less certain. The senior safety has shown flashes of brilliance at Colorado, but he is not considered a lock to be drafted. Even if he makes it into the league, the likelihood of both brothers ending up on the same NFL roster is slim.

Sanders’ Commitment to Colorado
Despite the rumors swirling around his coaching ambitions, Sanders remains committed to his work at Colorado. Since taking over as head coach in 2023, he has revitalized the Buffaloes program, bringing a winning culture and significant national attention to Boulder.
His high-energy leadership and knack for recruiting have transformed the team into a contender, and he frequently speaks about his love for the university and the city.
“I’m locked in here,” Sanders said during the interview. “I’m building something special. We’re not done yet.”
The Ongoing NFL Buzz
Sanders’ success at Colorado has naturally drawn speculation about a potential move to the NFL, where his charisma and leadership could translate well. However, he has consistently played down such talk, emphasizing his passion for mentoring young athletes at the collegiate level.
Even so, his comments on Good Morning America have left the door open just a crack, fueling conversations about what might lure “Coach Prime” to the professional ranks.
His influence on football continues to grow, and while an NFL coaching stint remains a long shot, Sanders’ magnetic personality and knack for success make him a compelling figure for any football organization.
For now, Sanders is fully focused on Colorado and its mission to build a dominant program. But if Shedeur and Shilo ever end up on the same NFL roster, the league might just have a new contender for its coaching ranks.
