On Tuesday, wildfires in Los Angeles wreaked havoc across Pacific Palisades, Altadena, Pasadena, and Sylmar, prompting widespread evacuations and leaving communities on edge. Among those affected were the families of Los Angeles Lakers coach JJ Redick and Golden State Warriors coach Steve Kerr, who shared heartfelt messages during their respective postgame press conferences.
JJ Redick: “My Family Has Been Evacuated”
Before the Lakers faced the Dallas Mavericks, Redick addressed the media, revealing that his family and extended relatives had been forced to evacuate their home in Pacific Palisades.
“I want to acknowledge and send thoughts and prayers to everyone in Palisades right now,” Redick began. “It’s where I live. My family, my wife’s family, and my wife’s twin sister—they’ve all evacuated. I know there are a lot of people freaking out right now, including my family.”
Redick expressed deep concern over the strong winds forecasted for the evening, which threatened to worsen the situation.
“With the winds coming tonight, I know a lot of people are scared,” he said. “I just want to acknowledge that. Thoughts and prayers for sure, and I hope everybody stays safe.”
Despite the emotional toll of the crisis, Redick coached the Lakers through a hard-fought game, though they ultimately lost to the Dallas Mavericks.
