WNBA star Angel Reese recently shared a startling revelation about her time as a standout college basketball player at LSU, describing how she received unsolicited love letters from inmates in prison. The Chicago Sky superstar opened up about the bizarre and unsettling attention on her podcast, where guest host Coco Jones was equally taken aback.
Reese, who became a household name after helping LSU secure an NCAA Championship title by defeating Iowa and her now-WNBA rival Caitlin Clark, revealed that some of the letters went beyond innocent admiration.
“Somehow, some way, these men in jail used to send love letters when I was in college,” Reese shared. “One of them even got my mom’s address, and my mom had to handle it—calling the police and all that.”
The messages weren’t just casual fan mail, either. “I swear, he was talking about, ‘When I get out, I’m coming for you, imma be with you. We’re going to have kids,’” Reese recounted. “Sir, take a timeout.”

Guest host Coco Jones responded with humor but acknowledged the seriousness of the situation, adding, “Add a year for scary behavior—nasty work.”
Reese’s rise to stardom began during her time at LSU, where she led the Tigers to their first NCAA Women’s Basketball Championship.
Her iconic moment during the championship game—a bold ring-pointing gesture directed at Caitlin Clark—catapulted her into the national spotlight. That moment, now almost two years ago, solidified her place as one of the most recognizable faces in women’s basketball.
Her fame, however, has extended beyond the court and, as this revelation suggests, even into unexpected places like the prison system.
Since entering the WNBA, Reese has quickly become one of the league’s brightest stars. Despite a wrist injury that shortened her rookie season, she remains a dominant force on the Chicago Sky and is widely regarded as one of the best players on the team.
Reese is set to return to basketball action in the newly formed Unrivaled 3-on-3 women’s basketball league, where she will join Team Rose BC alongside fellow WNBA star Kahleah Copper. The league, designed to bring a new level of excitement to women’s basketball, has already drawn attention, though notable players like Caitlin Clark have opted not to participate.
While Reese’s on-court achievements continue to grow, her candidness about her personal experiences, such as the unsettling letters, highlights the unique challenges faced by high-profile athletes, particularly women, in the public eye.
Despite the odd and often invasive attention, Reese remains focused on her career and the positive impact she can make both on and off the court.
