Taylor Swift has been a frequent presence at NFL games over the past year, cheering on her rumored boyfriend Travis Kelce and the Kansas City Chiefs. But according to a recent report, there was one NFL fan base that left a lasting impression on her—and not in a positive way.
As the Kansas City Chiefs prepare to face the Buffalo Bills on Sunday afternoon, speculation has been swirling about whether Swift will attend the game. Kansas City enters the matchup with a perfect 9-0 record this season, facing Buffalo in what promises to be a massive AFC showdown.
The game is a rematch of last year’s AFC Divisional Round playoff, where the Chiefs emerged victorious on the road. Now, the Chiefs will be looking to repeat their success in Buffalo, but fans are wondering if Swift will make the trip for this high-stakes matchup.
There’s a reason for the uncertainty. It appears that Swift’s previous experience with Buffalo’s famously rowdy fan base, known as Bills Mafia, was less than enjoyable. According to a report by Adam Lefkoe, a friend of the Kelce family, Swift and her family were “shocked” by the behavior of Bills fans during their visit last January.
Speaking on the “Up & Adams” show with Kay Adams, Lefkoe revealed that the experience in Buffalo was far from ideal for Swift and those close to her. “I have heard from people very close that it was not a great experience in Buffalo. It was not. For all parties involved. And I’m talking about the most famous of all the parties,” Lefkoe said, referring to Swift. “I think it kind of shocked the Kelce family and everyone related to the Kelce family—the reception they got.”
Lefkoe went on to describe how the Swift family and the Kelce family had high expectations for their visit to Buffalo, believing it would be an exciting game with positive energy.
Instead, they were met with Bills Mafia’s notorious intensity. “I think they were kind of going in being like, ‘This is going to be an amazing game with good energy.’ And they got there and they experienced Bills Mafia in full form, in its complete ruthlessness,” Lefkoe continued. “And I think they left and went, ‘I don’t know if I want to experience that again.'”
Bills Mafia has earned a reputation for being one of the most passionate—and at times, over-the-top—fan bases in the NFL.
Their enthusiasm often crosses the line into unruly territory, and it seems that Swift and her entourage felt the full brunt of their intensity during last season’s visit.
The story sheds light on the less glamorous side of being a celebrity attending major sporting events, especially when the stakes are high and emotions run wild.
As for whether Swift will be in attendance this Sunday, that remains to be seen. The Chiefs will be taking on the Bills in what is set to be another electrifying matchup, but the lingering memory of her last experience with Bills Mafia might be enough to keep Swift away from Buffalo this time around.
Kickoff between the Kansas City Chiefs and the Buffalo Bills is scheduled for 4:25 p.m. ET, with coverage airing on CBS. Fans will just have to wait and see if Taylor Swift makes an appearance—or if she opts to sit this one out.
