In recent years, the topic of transgender athletes competing in sports has become a heated issue at the intersection of sports and politics. One of the most vocal figures in the debate has been former President Donald Trump, who is the Republican nominee for the 2024 presidential election. Trump has consistently made his opposition to transgender athletes competing in women’s sports a key part of his platform.
During a recent appearance on Fox News’ The Faulkner Focus, hosted by Harris Faulkner, Trump was asked directly about how he would handle the issue if re-elected. The question came from an audience member during a town hall segment, seeking clarity on his stance regarding transgender participation in women’s sports.
“It’s such an easy question, and everybody in the room, and you, know the answer,” Trump responded. “We’re not going to let it happen.”
Trump’s answer reflected his firm and uncompromising stance on the issue, a position he has held publicly for years. His response referenced ongoing controversies, including a recent case involving San Jose State women’s volleyball team and transgender player Blaire Fleming, a situation that has sparked national debate over fairness and inclusion in sports. Trump concluded his remarks by doubling down on his opposition to transgender athletes competing in women’s categories. “We stop it. We stop it. We absolutely stop it. You can’t have it,” he declared.

This isn’t the first time in recent days that Trump has addressed the issue of transgender athletes. During an appearance on the Bussin’ With The Boys podcast, hosted by former NFL players Taylor Lewan and Will Compton, Trump was asked how he plans to unite the country if elected president.
Although the question was unrelated to transgender athletes, Trump pivoted the conversation to the topic, bringing up his concerns unprompted.
“So, you want to see the country united,” Trump said. “But you have a very conservative side, and then you have people that want to see an open border and things. A lot of it is so far out. Like, for instance, they want men playing in women’s sports. I don’t think I could ever say I’m thrilled about that. I’ve seen it. I’ve seen people really hurt.”
Trump’s comments underscore his belief that allowing transgender women to compete in women’s sports creates an uneven playing field, a viewpoint that resonates with many of his conservative supporters.
He has frequently cited concerns about fairness and physical safety, while his opponents argue that his stance disregards the rights and identities of transgender individuals.
The issue of transgender athletes in sports has been a recurring talking point in the lead-up to the 2024 presidential election. Trump, who has sought to appeal to the conservative base by highlighting cultural issues, continues to use this topic as part of his broader platform on gender and identity politics.
He has made it clear that, if re-elected, one of his priorities will be to legislate against transgender athletes competing in women’s sports, framing the issue as part of his efforts to “protect” women’s sports.
With the United States presidential election scheduled for November 5, 2024, Trump’s position on transgender athletes is likely to remain a prominent talking point as the campaign unfolds. As the debate continues to evolve, the issue remains deeply polarizing, with advocates on both sides calling for fairness and inclusion in sports. For Trump, however, the solution is simple: “We stop it.”
