Angel Reese is making strong strides in her recovery journey following her WNBA rookie season. On Wednesday, the Chicago Sky star provided a major update on her progress after missing the final six games of the 2024 season due to a fractured left wrist, which required surgery.
Reese underwent surgery on September 10 to address the injury and had been wearing a hand brace ever since. Now, nearly a month after the procedure, Reese shared some exciting news—she’s officially out of her hand brace and one step closer to resuming normal activities.
“My hand brace is finally off,” Reese announced on social media, adding a playful twist: “The hiding my brace with my bags era is OFFICIALLY OVER.” Reese had previously concealed her brace in photos by positioning her bags to hide it, so her lighthearted comment was a nod to fans who had followed her through the process.
While the update is great for Reese’s social media presence, the real victory is in her recovery. The forward’s wrist has healed enough for her to take off the brace, signaling that she’s progressing well in her rehab.

Reese had outlined her recovery timeline to fans on TikTok shortly after her surgery, explaining that she would be in a hard cast for four weeks, followed by a soft cast for two weeks before resuming her normal routine.
“I’m going to be in a hard cast for four weeks and then I’m going to be in a soft cast for two weeks. Then, I’m back—six weeks and I’ll be back to doing my own thing, normal life,” Reese had shared.
Given this timeline, fans can expect to see Reese in a soft cast for the next couple of weeks as she continues her rehabilitation.
The good news is that her recovery seems to be going smoothly, with no setbacks reported. If all goes according to plan, she could be back to basketball-related activities before the end of October, which is an encouraging sign for both her and the Chicago Sky.
Reese’s rookie season was nothing short of spectacular. She averaged 13.6 points and led the league with 13.1 rebounds per game, showcasing her dominance on the boards.
While she didn’t win WNBA Rookie of the Year, she made an unforgettable impact, setting the league record for the longest double-double streak with 15 consecutive games.
Despite her season ending prematurely, Reese’s impressive debut has set the stage for what could be an even more remarkable sophomore campaign. Fans are already eagerly awaiting her return to the court in 2025, where she’ll look to build on the momentum from her rookie year and continue making her mark in the WNBA.
With her recovery on track and her determination evident, Reese is well-positioned to come back stronger than ever. Sky fans, along with the rest of the WNBA, will be keeping a close eye on her comeback as she gears up for another impactful season.
