Las Vegas Aces star A’ja Wilson barely flinched when informed that she had just set a new WNBA record for most rebounds in a single season on Tuesday night. Despite her monumental achievement, Wilson’s reaction was remarkably casual, displaying the same calm confidence she brings to the court.
Wilson, who had already etched her name into the history books earlier in the season by setting the single-season scoring record, added yet another accolade to her growing résumé. However, during the postgame media session, her laid-back demeanor didn’t give away the magnitude of her latest accomplishment.
Following the Aces’ 85-72 victory over the Seattle Storm, Wilson joined a video call with reporters, unaware of the record she had just broken. When a reporter informed her of the new rebound milestone, Wilson seemed unphased, brushing off the news with a humorous exchange involving her coach, Becky Hammon, and teammate Kelsey Plum.
“Record for what?” Wilson asked, genuinely confused. When told it was for rebounds, she responded nonchalantly, “Oh, um, that’s cool. I don’t hunt rebounds, you know, so it’s not something that’s always on my mind. But when it comes to just getting the basketball for my team—”

At that moment, Hammon chimed in with a teasing remark, “She doesn’t hunt rebounds, she just gets 13 of them all the time.” The room erupted in laughter as Plum joined in the playful banter.
Wilson, standing at 6’4″, chuckled and continued, “I mean, I’m around the basket, I hope I can grab a couple rebounds for my team. But I don’t focus on it—I’m more about putting the ball in the hoop. But if my name can end up in the record books in any way, it’s a blessing. This league is tough, so that’s cool.”
Wilson’s modesty aside, her performance on the court has been nothing short of dominant. With seven rebounds in Tuesday night’s game, she surpassed the previous single-season record of 446 rebounds set by Chicago Sky rookie Angel Reese just weeks prior on September 1. Wilson now holds the record at 451 rebounds, and with several games left in the regular season, she’s poised to add even more to her total.
This accomplishment comes just days after Wilson made history by becoming the first player in WNBA history to score 1,000 points in a single season, a feat she achieved in Sunday’s win over the Connecticut Sun. The two-time MVP continues to solidify her place among the league’s elite, both as a scorer and now as a rebounder.
Wilson’s remarkable season has been a driving force behind the Aces’ recent hot streak. The defending back-to-back champions have won their last four games, including two decisive victories over Caitlin Clark and the Indiana Fever. As the playoffs loom, Wilson and her team are in prime form. With a potential No. 3 seed in the WNBA playoffs on the line, the Aces could clinch it with a win against the Dallas Wings and a Connecticut Sun loss on Thursday.
While Wilson may not actively “hunt” rebounds, her dominant presence on the court has made her one of the most versatile and valuable players in the league.
Whether it’s setting records or leading her team to victory, A’ja Wilson continues to prove that she is a force to be reckoned with in the WNBA.
