Kansas City Chiefs kicker Harrison Butker faced significant criticism this offseason following his faith-based commencement speech at Benedictine College, which sparked controversy due to its strong social and political commentary. During the speech, Butker urged female graduates to embrace traditional roles as homemakers and took a hard stance against the LGBTQ community, as well as President Biden’s position on abortion.
He also condemned practices such as abortion, IVF, surrogacy, and euthanasia, attributing them to “a growing support for degenerate cultural values” and criticizing the media for perpetuating what he sees as societal disorder.
The speech quickly made waves, drawing both backlash and praise. While many criticized his remarks as out of step with modern views on gender roles and reproductive rights, Butker’s words resonated strongly with conservative circles. As a result, he has since gained considerable prominence among conservative figures and media outlets.
Most recently, Butker was seen mingling with conservative media personalities Tucker Carlson and Megyn Kelly at the T-Mobile Center, a move that further solidified his standing as a notable figure within the conservative world.
His appearance alongside these prominent voices suggests his growing involvement and influence within right-wing political and cultural discourse.
Despite the offseason controversy, Butker’s professional career remains strong. He signed a lucrative contract extension ahead of the 2023 NFL season and continues to perform at a high level for the Kansas City Chiefs, who are currently 1-0 and eyeing their third consecutive Super Bowl victory.
While his off-field comments have ignited debate, his on-field success continues to define his role as one of the league’s top kickers.
