On Tuesday night, Caitlin Clark, the star college basketball player, stirred some conversation when she “liked” Taylor Swift’s Instagram post endorsing Kamala Harris for president. The action quickly caught attention, and by Wednesday, Clark was asked to address her social media move during a press conference. Her response was thoughtful and deftly navigated, focusing on the importance of civic engagement rather than making a political endorsement.
A reporter asked Clark what Swift’s post meant to her and if she was also throwing her support behind Harris for president.
Clark responded by highlighting the significance of using her platform to encourage people to vote, rather than directly endorsing a candidate.
“I think for myself, I have this amazing platform, so the biggest thing I would encourage is for people to register to vote,” Clark said. “This is only the second time I’ll be able to vote in a national election at age 22. I voted when I was 18, and I’ll vote again now. I think that’s the most important message I can share with the platform I have. It’s the same thing Taylor did—she used her influence to inspire people to participate.”

Clark continued, emphasizing the importance of staying informed about the candidates and the policies they support. “It’s so crucial to educate yourself about the candidates and what they stand for. That’s the advice I’d give to everyone who has the chance to vote in our country.”
While Clark stopped short of officially endorsing any candidate, her comments reflected a broader message: that everyone, especially young people, should take the responsibility of voting seriously and engage with the political process.
As for her basketball career, Clark and her team, the Indiana Fever, were set to take on the Las Vegas Aces later that night at Gainbridge Fieldhouse.
While Clark’s social media activity sparked a brief political discussion, her focus remains on leading her team and encouraging civic involvement among her fan base.
