Philadelphia 76ers head coach Doc Rivers has been fired. Rivers hoped to return for another season, but it is not to be. The team’s loss to the Boston Celtics in Game 7 of the Eastern Conference Finals spelled the end for Rivers in Philadelphia.
Doc Rivers led the team to the Eastern Conference Finals in all three seasons he coached them. However, Rivers failed to win any of them. Despite being a competent regular-season coach, his playoff track record leaves much to be desired.
There was some hope for Rivers that he might return. Joel Embiid had praised Rivers after their Game 7 loss, calling him “fantastic.” However, the ownership seemingly disagreed and decided to let him go. Along with Monty Williams of the Phoenix Suns and Mike Budenholzer of the Milwaukee Bucks, Rivers will now be looking for a new team as well next season.
