The college football player with arguably the most memorable name in the sport has earned a starting quarterback position. Louisiana-Monroe is set to name General Booty as their starting quarterback for the team’s season opener on August 29 against Jackson State, according to a report by Matt Zenitz of 247 Sports.
Booty, who made headlines as much for his distinctive name as for his football skills, transferred to Louisiana-Monroe earlier this year after spending the previous two seasons as a backup quarterback at Oklahoma, where he was behind starter Dillon Gabriel. Although Booty might have had an opportunity to compete for the starting job at Oklahoma in 2024 following Gabriel’s departure to another prominent program, he chose to seek a fresh start at Louisiana-Monroe, where he could immediately make an impact.
Before his time at Oklahoma, Booty was a standout at Tyler Junior College in Tyler, Texas. He led the NJCAA in passing yards, racking up an impressive 3,115 yards and throwing 25 touchdown passes.
His performance at the junior college level caught the attention of several Division I programs, ultimately leading to his move to the Sooners and now to the Warhawks.

Football talent runs deep in Booty’s family. He is the son of former LSU receiver Abram Booty, who tallied 1,768 receiving yards and eight touchdowns during his college career from 1997 to 2000. General’s uncles are also notable figures in football: Josh Booty, a former LSU quarterback who also played as a third baseman for the Florida Marlins, and John David Booty, who played quarterback at USC.
Despite the attention his unique name has garnered, General Booty is focused on making a name for himself through his performance on the field. Two years ago, he acknowledged that his name has drawn a lot of attention but emphasized that he wants his play to be the reason people recognize him.
Now, as the starting quarterback for Louisiana-Monroe, he has the perfect opportunity to turn that aspiration into reality and prove himself as a leader on the field.
As Booty takes the reins for the Warhawks, he will look to lead the team to success this season and establish himself as a key player in college football, showing that his skills go far beyond just having a memorable name.
