Peyton Manning is widely celebrated for his legendary football career, where he solidified his place as one of the greatest quarterbacks in NFL history. His on-field success has also paved the way for a thriving career in broadcasting. However, Manning’s athletic talents aren’t confined to the gridiron. He was also a standout basketball player during his high school days and, like many athletes, has developed a deep love for golf.
Manning’s passion for golf has led him to participate in various tournaments, often rubbing shoulders with some of the sport’s biggest names. On Wednesday, Manning took part in the BMW Championship Pro-Am at Castle Pines in Denver, where he had the opportunity to play alongside 2023 U.S. Open champion Wyndham Clark.
Despite his competitive spirit and experience on the course, Manning’s opening tee shot was far from his best. The two-time Super Bowl champion topped his first attempt, sending the ball only a short distance from the tee. Ever the good sport, Manning laughed at himself, joining the crowd in taking the mishap in stride.
While this particular shot may not have showcased his best golfing abilities, Manning is no stranger to performing well under pressure on the course. Many fans will recall his impressive performance in 2020 when he teamed up with Tiger Woods to take on Tom Brady and Phil Mickelson in “The Match.” This charity golf event, held at the height of the COVID-19 pandemic, raised $20 million for various causes and provided some much-needed entertainment during difficult times.

Reflecting on that experience, Manning said, “Phil said he was nervous, so imagine us. To go behind the ropes and get in these guys’ world and in the arena with them was really an incredible experience. I was not comfortable the whole time, but raising $20 million as people are going through such tough times, it’s something I’ll always remember and cherish.”
Given Manning’s track record, it’s likely that he found his rhythm as the round progressed, shaking off the early flub and delivering more consistent shots. The Pro-Am served as a lead-in to the BMW Championship, which kicks off this weekend, and Manning’s presence added an extra layer of excitement to the event.
Manning’s willingness to laugh at his own mistakes and continue to challenge himself in new arenas—whether on the golf course or in the broadcasting booth—reminds us why he’s not only a sports icon but also a beloved figure off the field.
While his football achievements will always be his legacy, his adventures in other sports continue to showcase his competitive nature and sense of humor.
