On Sunday, Caitlin Clark found herself on the receiving end of an opponent’s remarkably petty behavior during the Indiana Fever’s 92-75 victory over the Seattle Storm at Gainbridge Fieldhouse in Indianapolis. Clark, whose stellar performance has been a highlight of the season, appeared to have gotten under the skin of Skylar Diggins-Smith, leading to a moment of unnecessary hostility.
The incident occurred after a timeout when Diggins-Smith, visibly frustrated, was seen on video deliberately speeding up her pace to intentionally bump into Clark as they both headed to their respective benches.
The move, which seemed both calculated and unsportsmanlike, added a layer of tension to what was otherwise a routine walk back to the sidelines.
To make matters worse, the Storm’s coach attempted to capitalize on the situation by arguing for a technical foul against Clark, despite the contact being clearly instigated by Diggins-Smith. The attempt to penalize Clark for a situation she didn’t provoke only highlighted the pettiness of the entire scenario.

Despite the distraction, Clark remained focused, finishing the game with an impressive stat line of 23 points, 5 rebounds, and 9 assists. Her nine assists set a new WNBA record for most assists in a season by a rookie, further cementing her status as a rising star in the league.
On the other side, Diggins-Smith, a six-time WNBA All-Star, managed 15 points on 6-of-17 shooting but seemed more concerned with rattling Clark than leading her team.
The incident may reflect a hint of jealousy or frustration, as Clark’s rapid ascent in the WNBA continues to capture the attention of fans and players alike.
