Patrick Mahomes isn’t too sure about his comedic skills.
On Sunday, August 11, the Kansas City Chiefs shared a lighthearted video on their official Instagram page as part of their popular “Mic’d Up” series.
The video featured the 28-year-old star quarterback getting ready for practice while keeping his teammates and coaches entertained with a steady stream of jokes and stories.
One of the more memorable moments in the video shows Mahomes suddenly realizing he forgot to wear his padded pants, sparking a playful exchange with his teammates. “Dude, I didn’t put my pants on,” Mahomes says with a laugh, turning to offensive lineman Creed Humphrey. “You think anyone notices?”
As the team prepares for the next play, Mahomes continues, “I forgot my pants pads. Maybe the coach will think my quads are so big that they look like pants.” His coach, not missing a beat, dryly responds, “I doubt it,” drawing more laughs from those around.
The video also captures Mahomes cheering on his teammates with enthusiasm, shouting “Out the gate!” after a successful pass during practice. Another clip shows the team warming up to some popular Top 40 tracks, which prompts Mahomes to reflect on his unfamiliarity with the current music scene. “It’s just crazy to me how much music I don’t know out here. Like, I know I’m getting old,” he admits. “I listen to all types of music, too. And I just don’t know s— out here. I ain’t never heard this song in my life.”
The Chiefs playfully captioned the Instagram post with, “QB1’s got jokes ?,” and Mahomes himself couldn’t resist chiming in. He commented on the post, humorously downplaying his own banter by saying he was “out here talking about nothing ???.”

This amusing video was released just a day after the Chiefs faced the Jacksonville Jaguars in an NFL preseason game at EverBank Stadium in Jacksonville, Florida, on Saturday, August 10.
Ahead of the game, the Chiefs’ Instagram account posted footage of Mahomes delivering a rallying speech to his teammates, showing his leadership both on and off the field. In another clip, Mahomes was seen quickly signing a young fan’s T-shirt and posing for a photo with a man and a baby, highlighting his connection with fans.
Despite Mahomes’ best efforts, the Chiefs endured a tough 13-26 loss to the Jaguars. However, the game wasn’t without its highlights, including an impressive touchdown from rookie running back Carson Steele and a solid 45-yard field goal by kicker Harrison Butker.
Off the field, Mahomes is eagerly anticipating the arrival of his third child. Last month, his wife, Brittany, announced they are expecting their third baby in a joyful Instagram Reel. The video featured the couple and their children — 3-year-old daughter Sterling and 20-month-old son Bronze — laughing and dancing around with sonogram images. “Round three, here we come ?,” the couple captioned the video, sharing their excitement with fans.
As Mahomes continues to balance the demands of fatherhood, football, and even a bit of comedy, it’s clear that the Chiefs’ quarterback remains as grounded and charismatic as ever, both on and off the field.
