Stephen Curry’s wife, Ayesha Curry, and his mother, Sonya Curry, found themselves in a distressing situation with French police shortly after the U.S. men’s basketball team secured their gold medal at the 2024 Paris Olympics.
A video shared by the Hollywood Fix on Sunday captured the emotional moment as Ayesha, visibly upset, wiped away tears while Sonya engaged in a heated exchange with officers.
The Curry family was allegedly being prevented from returning to their vehicle, creating a tense atmosphere on the streets of Paris.
The exact details of the confrontation remain unclear, but the video reveals Sonya shouting that someone had “touched the baby” during the commotion. Ayesha, who is the founder of Sweet July, was seen holding her 3-month-old son, Caius Chai, in a baby carrier, while also holding the hand of her 6-year-old son, Canon Jack.
As the situation unfolded, Sonya can be heard expressing her frustration to the officers, stating, “Look, they won’t let us go back over there where we came from. They won’t let the driver come here and they won’t let us go back over there.” Despite attempts by a man who offered to translate and apologized on behalf of the police, the Curry family was still blocked from crossing the street to reach their car. The reason for the delay was reportedly due to French President Emmanuel Macron’s departure from the area.

Stephen Curry was not present in the video, but his teammate Draymond Green eventually stepped in to assist.
Green, visibly concerned, questioned the officers, “So, even after him hitting the baby in the head, there’s still nothing y’all can do to get them out of here?” The video cuts off before the situation is resolved, leaving the outcome unknown.
The Curry family has yet to make a public statement regarding the incident. Reps for Stephen, Ayesha, and Draymond Green have not responded to requests for comment from media outlets.
This unsettling encounter occurred shortly after Team USA’s triumph over France with a score of 98-87 at Bercy Arena, securing the gold medal. Stephen Curry, who earned his first Olympic gold, led the team with 24 points, contributing to the U.S. team’s fifth consecutive Olympic victory. Other standout players included LeBron James, Kevin Durant, and Devin Booker.
The incident underscores the challenges and unexpected moments that can arise even in the wake of significant victories, casting a shadow over what should have been a celebratory moment for the Curry family.
