Megan Rapinoe has weighed in on the much-debated WNBA Rookie of the Year race between Caitlin Clark and Angel Reese.
Recently, Rapinoe and her fiancée, WNBA legend Sue Bird, appeared on a panel where they discussed, among other things, who they believe is the top rookie in the league this season.
Bird informed the crowd that she and Rapinoe were in agreement that Clark deserves the Rookie of the Year title.
“I have Caitlin [Clark],” Rapinoe stated. “She’s leading in all the categories. Assists, turnovers, points (crowd laughs). Do not roast her, come on. Don’t roast her, she’s fine.”

Bird further explained her reasoning: “For Rookie of the Year, I don’t really do the stat comparison. Yeah, it can help inform things when it’s tight for sure. I don’t do the [team] record. I just do the eye test, and to me, she [Clark] is rookie of the year.”
Rapinoe also acknowledged the impressive performances of both Clark and Indiana Fever second-year star Aliyah Boston, stating that they “have really figured it out” before going on to praise Reese.
“Angel is having an amazing season. Obviously, breaking the double-double [record],” Rapinoe noted.
Both Clark, the No. 1 overall pick, and Reese, the seventh overall selection, have wowed fans through the first half of their rookie seasons. Their performances have sparked a lively debate among fans and analysts alike.
As the season progresses, all eyes will be on Clark and Reese to see how they continue to perform. Clark and the Fever will return to action against the Phoenix Mercury on August 16, one day after Reese and the Chicago Sky host the Mercury in their return to regular season play. The Rookie of the Year race remains one of the most exciting storylines of the WNBA season.
