Caleb Williams will not be making his much-anticipated NFL debut during the Chicago Bears’ upcoming preseason game on Thursday.
Bears head coach Matt Eberflus announced on Tuesday that the team’s starters, including Williams, would sit out the Hall of Fame game in Canton, Ohio. Eberflus explained the decision, emphasizing the team’s confidence in their current progress from practice sessions.
“The starters are not playing in the Hall of Fame game. We feel really good about where we’re at right now in terms of the practices we’ve had,” Eberflus said. “We’ve had a lot of good 1v1s, 2v2s, and a lot of situational drills. We got a head start because we are in the Hall of Fame game. It’s a great opportunity for the role players on our team and the guys that are fringe players.”

NFL fans, eager to see the first overall pick from the NFL Draft, expressed disappointment at the news that Caleb Williams would not be participating in the initial preseason game.
For those looking forward to Williams’ debut, the wait will be a bit longer. The star quarterback is now expected to make his first appearance in the NFL during the Bears’ next preseason game on August 10th.
In the meantime, Thursday’s game will provide a valuable platform for other players on the roster to showcase their skills and make a case for their place on the team. This strategy allows the coaching staff to evaluate the depth and potential of their squad as they prepare for the regular season.
