Training camp has arrived in the NFL, signaling that the preseason is just around the corner and teams are gearing up for the regular season.
While the main focus is on practicing plays and mastering the playbook, ensuring physical readiness for the grueling football year is equally crucial.
In New York, this preparation extends beyond the players to the head coach. Giants head coach Brian Daboll has undergone a significant transformation, shedding extra weight and becoming almost unrecognizable to many.
Earlier this week, it was revealed that a major part of Daboll’s weight loss journey involved Pilates.

Giants general manager Joe Schoen shared the secret behind Daboll’s new look in a conversation with Kay Adams. “What he fell in love with probably over the last three or four weeks is Pilates,” Schoen said. “He’s doing Pilates. The first week and a half he was dying. He could barely move, but now after sticking with it for a couple weeks, he’s addicted.”
Hard work at all levels is essential for success, and Daboll’s dedication to his health is a testament to this. The Giants reached the NFC Divisional Round in 2022, and after extending quarterback Daniel Jones, expectations were high for the following season. However, the team struggled, especially with a faltering offensive line and frequent changes at the quarterback position due to injuries.
As the new season approaches, the Giants are determined to prove they are not lagging behind the Eagles and Cowboys in the NFC East. Last season, Jones played only six games due to neck injuries and a torn ACL, falling short of the performance that earned him his contract extension.
“Big Blue” has much to prove in 2024. They need to build trust in their offensive line to give Jones the protection he needs to make decisive plays and create space for a running back core that will no longer include Saquon Barkley.
The Giants’ offensive strategy will need to adapt without Barkley, relying on new talent and strategies to fill the gap. Meanwhile, the team aims to stay competitive in a division known for its fierce rivals.
As training camp progresses, the physical and mental readiness of the Giants will be tested. Coach Daboll’s transformation is an inspiring example of commitment and resilience that the team will need to emulate on the field. With hard work and determination, the Giants hope to overcome last season’s setbacks and emerge as strong contenders in the NFC East.
In the broader NFL landscape, teams are making significant changes. The Vikings, for instance, are adjusting to a new quarterback dynamic, replacing Kirk Cousins with free-agent Sam Darnold and rookie JJ McCarthy. These shifts highlight the constant evolution within the league as teams strive for success.
As the season looms, all eyes will be on how these changes impact performance. For the Giants, the journey begins with a solid foundation in training camp, setting the stage for what they hope will be a triumphant season.
