With his contract set to make him a free agent in 2025, Dak Prescott’s future as the Dallas Cowboys quarterback appears uncertain.
One Cowboys legend believes that the team should make a bold move and trade him now.
Appearing on Up & Adams, Hall of Fame pass rusher and Cowboys icon Charles Haley suggested that the team should offer Dak for trade and start preparing for life without him. Haley emphasized that Prescott’s value is high and that many teams would be interested in acquiring him.
“Trade Dak. Just put him up for a trade. Guess what? Every team in the league would be after him… Dak is a winner, Dak is a great person, a great leader,” Haley said.
While the Cowboys likely want to make one more push for a Super Bowl with Dak at the helm, relying solely on this season to achieve that goal is risky. They could be left without a clear plan for the future, whether they win a title or not.
Currently, the Cowboys don’t have a clear successor or replacement for Dak and haven’t heavily invested in developing their backup quarterbacks. Trading Prescott now could allow the team to receive significant value in return, potentially including draft picks and young talent that could help build for the future.
The big question remains: Should the Cowboys trade Dak Prescott before the 2025 offseason? If they decide to make such a deal, timing will be crucial.
Trading him before the season starts could give the team time to integrate a new quarterback, while waiting until mid-season might offer more insight into their playoff chances and Prescott’s performance. However, trading him in the offseason would give the Cowboys more flexibility and time to find a suitable replacement.
Ultimately, the decision will depend on the team’s long-term strategy and their confidence in building a competitive roster with or without Dak Prescott.
