Travis Kelce’s first round of the 2024 American Century Championship celebrity golf tournament proved to be as hazardous as his professional football career.
The Kansas City Chiefs star’s errant shots into the Lake Tahoe crowd resulted in injuries, including a serious incident involving a woman in her 20s, according to People.
During his time on the 16th hole at Edgewood Tahoe Golf Course, Kelce’s drive struck the young woman in the back of her head. An eyewitness reported seeing streaks of blood in her blonde hair. Despite the lack of footage of the incident, it is clear that the situation was serious.
Kelce promptly walked into the crowd to check on the injured woman, later joking that taking a picture with her was the least he could do. His brother and tournament rival, Jason Kelce, also checked on her. The woman reportedly was unsure which of the Kelce brothers had hit the errant shot.
Paramedics quickly arrived to treat the woman, who remains unidentified. She was eventually able to stand after several minutes of sitting on the ground, and she was transported off the course. Play resumed shortly after the incident.

Travis Kelce finished his first round tied for 62nd place with legendary pitcher Roger Clemens and SNL alum Colin Jost, a significant departure from 2023 when he won the tournament.
Interestingly, Travis had offered Jason some prescient advice during a recent episode of their podcast, New Heights. Jason asked Travis for advice on playing in Lake Tahoe for the first time. Travis humorously replied, “My advice would be don’t feel bad if you hit somebody because they bought the ticket. It’s a bunch of amateurs out there trying to play golf so don’t feel bad. People have been hit before. They got EMTs, whatever it’s called, they got right there at every hole. Everybody will be fine.”
Travis’s prediction came true. In addition to hitting the woman, another of his tee shots struck a man in the arm on the first hole. A video posted on X shows Travis marching down the course with a sheriff before locating the fan. Upon meeting the gentleman in a bright blue button-down shirt, Travis shook his hand and humorously kissed his arm. The apologetic gesture was met with laughs and cheers from the crowd at Edgewood Tahoe Resort.
Despite the mishaps, the Kelce brothers attracted a throng of fans as they made their way around the course. The star-studded tournament featured numerous NFL talents, including Aaron Rodgers, Josh Allen, Derek Carr, Baker Mayfield, Trevor Lawrence, Joe Flacco, and Kyle Juszczyk. NFL legends such as Jerry Rice, Steve Young, and Tony Romo also teed up alongside various TV and film stars.
Before the incidents on the course, Jason Kelce won the long drive contest ahead of the tournament, out-hitting everyone with a tee shot that traveled 322 yards. This victory was particularly notable as Travis Kelce had won the event in 2023.
The Kelce brothers’ participation in the tournament highlighted their competitive spirits and sense of humor, even in the face of unexpected challenges.
