Chicago Bears safety Jonathan Owens has recently stirred up quite a bit of controversy online with remarks about his relationship with the renowned gymnast Simone Biles.
Despite the backlash, Owens has made it clear that he is unfazed by the criticism.
Simone Biles is arguably the most famous gymnast in the world, having already secured her place as the most decorated competitor in the history of the sport. She will have another opportunity to add to her impressive collection of medals at the upcoming Summer Olympics in Paris.
The Bears, recognizing the significance of Owens supporting his wife, have granted him permission to travel to France to cheer on Biles. Owens joined the Bears earlier this year after a season with the Packers. He and Biles married in 2023, three years after meeting on the dating app Raya.

Owens shared details about the beginning of their relationship during an appearance on The Pivot podcast. His admission that he didn’t know who Biles was when they first connected sparked some controversy, especially given some evidence suggesting otherwise. He further fueled the fire by asserting that he, not Biles, was the true “catch” in their relationship.
Biles has frequently defended her husband against the critics who continue to harp on these comments. While Owens has mostly avoided addressing the issue, he chose to speak out during a recent interview with US Weekly.
He acknowledged the ongoing discourse but emphasized his immunity to it.
Owens explained that he wisely avoids paying much attention to online chatter, stating: “I was actually with my mom and Simone whenever it came out, so, all the comments and everything, I just let them read it. I try to stay off of it, and obviously if you feel like stuff is kind of getting out of hand, that’s when you reach in and say something.”
He added, “If you say something, they’re going to say something; if you don’t say something, they’re going to say something,” highlighting the futility of engaging with internet trolls.
Owens’ approach to handling the criticism reflects a level-headed perspective on the relentless nature of online commentary. His focus remains on supporting his wife and his career, regardless of the noise from detractors.
As Biles prepares for the Olympics and Owens gears up for the NFL season, the couple continues to demonstrate resilience and mutual support in the face of public scrutiny.
