Dak Prescott recently caused a stir among fans and media when a photo surfaced on social media showing him wearing a walking boot on his right ankle while vacationing in Cabo San Lucas.
The image sparked concerns about the Dallas Cowboys quarterback’s health and future performance. However, Prescott quickly addressed the situation to put minds at ease.
In an interview with Clarence Hill of the Fort Worth Star-Telegram, Prescott explained that the walking boot is part of his routine maintenance for an old injury. “The same ankle, same issues,” Prescott told Hill, referring to the right ankle he fractured in 2020.
Prescott’s injury history with that ankle is well-documented. He suffered a right ankle compound fracture dislocation during a game against the New York Giants nearly four years ago. The injury was severe enough to require immediate surgery, and it sidelined him for the final 11 games of the season.
Prescott further clarified his current use of the boot, noting that he wore it during his vacation because “the last time I went deep sea fishing my [ankle] swole up.” He reassured his fans and the Cowboys organization, saying, “I’m great.”
Despite his injury history, Prescott has demonstrated resilience and a strong return to form. In 2021, he played 16 games, missing only one due to a calf strain. The following year, he played 12 games, missing five due to a fractured thumb. In 2023, Prescott played all 17 games and delivered an outstanding performance, finishing second to Lamar Jackson in MVP voting.
Prescott’s contract status adds another layer of intrigue to his situation. He is entering the final year of his current deal and is expected to receive an extension that could make him the highest-paid player in the NFL.
Given his consistent performance and ability to overcome injuries, the Cowboys are likely to invest heavily in their star quarterback.
As Prescott prepares for the upcoming season, his focus remains on staying healthy and leading the Cowboys to success.
The walking boot may have raised questions, but Prescott’s explanation and track record suggest that he is ready to continue his role as one of the league’s top quarterbacks.
Fans can look forward to seeing him in action, confident that he is managing his health responsibly and effectively.
