Randi Mahomes is the mother of a three-time Super Bowl champion, Patrick Mahomes Jr., and the ex-wife of former Major League pitcher Patrick Mahomes Sr. At 48 years old, she is understandably weary of the celebrity lifestyle that has surrounded her family for two decades.
In a candid discussion on ‘The Mom Game’ podcast, Randi opened up about her struggles with fame. She expressed envy towards her friends who lead what she considers normal lives, unlike her own life filled with constant attention due to her famous sons – Patrick Jr., the star quarterback for the Kansas City Chiefs, and Jackson, a well-known social media influencer.
“I look at some of my friends on social media and I’m jealous that they have this normal life,” Randi admitted. “Their kids are the same age as Patrick (28) and Jackson (24), and they have this normal situation and we don’t. It’s super difficult. We just want to be normal and go and have dinner. We don’t do that.”
Her son’s notoriety even affects her professional life as an event planner, a career she has pursued for 20 years. “At my work, it’s really hard because 90 percent of my phone calls aren’t about work,” she said. “I still go to work and want to live normal.”
Living a normal life is a challenging dream when your eldest son is signed to a $480 million NFL contract. Despite acknowledging their fortune, Randi feels overwhelmed by the problems that fame brings.
“As much as I say we’re blessed and Patrick’s living his dream, it has been the hardest seven years of my adult life,” Randi explained. “It’s been really hard to juggle…being proud of him and the hate that you get and the kids get. I can’t even explain how hard it’s been. I’ve cried a lot. I struggle with it.”

Part of her struggle stems from the controversies surrounding her younger son, Jackson, who faced accusations of misdemeanor battery and three counts of aggravated sexual battery. The felony charges were later dropped due to a lack of cooperation from the alleged victim. “Jackson has been through the ringer,” Randi noted, but “the truth came out.”
Randi is also a mother to 12-year-old Mia and a grandmother to Patrick’s two children. She gave birth to Patrick Jr. when she was 20, while Patrick Sr. was pitching for the Minnesota Twins. Patrick Jr.’s godfather is former Twins reliever LaTroy Hawkins.
Although Randi is proud of Patrick Jr. living out his dream, she can’t help but feel that her other two children don’t enjoy the same level of luck. However, there are silver linings to her son’s success. Financial worries are a thing of the past, and she appreciates the role reversal when it comes to family dinners. “They don’t even need me for money to take them to dinner,” she said. “They take me to dinner.”
Randi’s reflections offer a glimpse into the complexities of living in the shadow of fame, balancing pride with the challenges that come with a high-profile family. Despite the struggles, her love and support for her children remain unwavering.
